The Checklist: Seasonal Affective Disorder
A quick look at the
“how” and “why”
of wintering well
from the video above.
How | Why |
---|---|
Spend Time Outdoors | Natural daylight, even on cloudy days, can help regulate your internal clock and boost serotonin levels. |
Stay Physically Active | Exercise increases mood-boosting chemicals like serotonin and endorphins, combating sluggishness and improving energy. |
Maintain a Routine | A consistent schedule for sleep, meals, and activities helps balance your circadian rhythm and improves overall well-being. |
Connect with Others | Social interaction provides emotional support and helps counteract feelings of isolation during the colder months. |
The Pause Portal: River Dart (Higher Ground)
The River Dart is full of storm
All hiss and spray,
rumble and foam.
Today is not a day for swimming.
Currents that overwhelm
are not an admirable quality.
The River Dart is full with rain
All full and flow,
brown and high.
Today is not a day for canoeing.
Rocks that no-one can see
are not an admirable quality.
Today is a day for higher paths
for gaining height
for gaining views
that turn the storm-full river’s
sound and force
into admirable qualities
best seen from afar.
Notice your breath’s rhythm
Is today a day for higher paths?
To step back and wonder
at this admirable endeavour?
To step up from
the noise and force
and get a better view?
To work on life
rather than in it?
State today’s intention
“30 minutes viewing from higher ground”.
It’s a start.
Breathe out.
Try it and see what difference it makes.
