The Pause Portal: Budleigh Salterton (Busyness)
What catches your
attention?
New?
Noise?
Chatter?
Shiny things?
Cut price offers?
The birds on the water’s edge
cackle and strut
bicker and flap
bob and squawk.
But that is not where the most energy is.
It’s not even in the rapids
curling round round to meet the sea.
It’s in the water before the rapids.
The energy is undissipated by
rapids
shallows
commotion.
Was it the first thing you noticed?
Probably not.
And that’s the point.
What catches your attention
doesn’t automatically
deserve your attention.
Noise
Chatter
Shiny things
have energy.
But not every energy
is worth your time.
The energy of comparison.
The energy of busyness.
The energy of FOMO.
Where will you get your energy today?
Where will you put your energy today?
If we can get these questions right
more often than not
we’ll be alright.
Notice your breath’s rhythm
On the out-breaths
think about where
your energy is going.
Is it life-improving?
On the in-breaths
think about where
your energy is coming from.
.
Is it life-giving?
It’s a start.
Breathe out one more time.
Try it and see what difference it makes.
