Pause Portal: Columbjohn Grey Wagtails (Rhythm of Care)
By the quiet flow of the Culm, life unfolds unseen.
Between riverbank and stump, a rhythm plays out—
soft wings darting, beaks full,
a faithful return, again and again.
The grey wagtails do not hurry.
They bring what they have, when they can.
No fanfare. No applause. Just care, repeated.
There’s a wisdom in that.
That the small, steady acts—
the unnoticed givings, the everyday offerings—
are what build safety, shape growth,
and hold the world together.
Perhaps we don’t need to rush.
Perhaps presence is enough.
Perhaps, like the wagtail,
we are most ourselves
when we tend to what we love
quietly, patiently, and with hope.
